How do I know I'm choosing the right renovator for the job?

Choosing the right renovator is key to satisfaction. Start by asking friends, relatives and neighbours who they have used and what their experience was. Then go to the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association for a list of renovator members. You can then begin by interviewing the renovator's you have chosen personally. Check their references, make sure to get three different bids and always consider more than just the lowest price. Some renovators will bid low to get the job and then charge for extras along the way. Expect about a 5% to 8% variance in prices but if there is a large difference - ask the renovator to explain why. In the end, after you have done your research, trust your insticts and choose the renovator that you feel most comfortable with.
